Programs

Pell Grant $976 - $5350
Per year Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students based on need. Need is determined by a number of factors including but not limited to the income level of the student and parent(s), the number of people in the household and the number of class hours for which the student enrolls. Grants do not have to be paid back.
 
S.E.O.G. Grant $300-$600 Per year
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants are awarded to students who are Pell Grant recipients and have very high levels of need. Need is determined by the same method as the Pell Grant. Award amounts fluctuate with funding levels. Early FAFSA applicants receive first priority.
 
Work-Study $2,115-$3,900 Per year

The work study program offers students the opportunity to work in various positions on campus to help pay the costs of their education. Positions are 10-20 hours per week and include areas such as clerical support, maintenance, food service, library, and janitorial. Positions are limited, so apply early.

 
Stafford Loans $5,500 - $12,500

Students with Independent status are eligible to borrow Unsubsidized Stafford loans depending on grade level. The yearly maximum amount for Stafford loans is $12,500. Federal Stafford Loans are available to students who meet eligibility requirements. These types of loans which are made in the student's name, offer low interest rates and have deferred payments.

Dependent Students:
Freshman: $5,500
Sophomore: $6,500
Junior/Senior: $7,500
   
Independent Students:
Freshman: $9,500
Sophomore: $10,500
Junior/Senior: $12,500
 
PLUS Loan - Amounts Vary
Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) are available to parents who meet eligibility requirements. The loan amounts can be for the cost of attendance minus all other student aid. Payments begin 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed.

Special Awards

Early Acceptance Award $300 - $1000
Available to students who have been accepted by May 15.
 
Distance Award $300
Available to students who come to NHCC from a distance of 1,000 miles or more.
 
Honors Award $600
High school seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.This award is renewable each year at $300 if a 3.3 GPA is maintained.
 
Ministerial Discount $750
Available to full-time students who are dependents of a licensed minister.
 
Resident Assistants $2,835
Available to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors with leadership capabilities who are elected as dorm leaders.
 
Married Student Discount $1500
If both the husband and wife are enrolled at least 12 day hours, a discount of $500 will apply each term.
 
Summer Tour Credit $2200
An award for students who tour with one of the summer music or drama groups.
