Drama
DRAMA AT NHCC is based on telling the story of Jesus
Christ in a new and different way. Although Drama is an
entertaining medium, it is also a great tool for outreach,
community awareness, illustrating truths, teaching, leading
individuals to worship and helping them understand God's
love. These things can be accomplished through Drama in
a non-threatening, enjoyable, interesting, yet heart-hitting
manner.
CLASSES - Classes in drama are offered through the
Worship Arts department. A Worship Arts major can follow
a drama or music track and earn an undergraduate degree
in Worship Arts with either emphasis. Classes range from
Drama in Worship to Acting to Directing with many other
classes in between.
| THE MADRIGAL DINNER - Drama is incorporated
into community outreach through the annual Madrigal
Dinner. Presented on campus each fall, the cast steps
back in time to a unique version of the Renaissance.
Students, faculty and staff pull together to make the
Madrigal Dinner a fun and frolicsome time for people
in the community to visit the campus, be served a formal
dinner, hear a unique message of God's love, and go
away feeling like NHCC is their college too. |
| ELEMENT X - (Everyone needs an element of Christ
in their lives) is a campus improv ministry that meets
weekly for rehearsals and brainstorming. Sketches on
Psalms, Proverbs and other truths are created and the
troupe's repertoire involves improvisational games that
use audience participation and quick-witted thinking.
Those audiences include everything from the Eugene Mission,
to Middle and High Schools, Youth Groups, Banquets,
Dinner Theatre, workshops and classes, to just friends
on campus who need a laugh and a break. |
| THE CALL - Each year NHCC sends outreach summer
ministry teams to tour the United States and Mexico
while ministering and representing the college. This
group, The Call, is formatted on drama, music, and worship
with which they speak Jesus into the lives of those
they meet every day. Drama at New Hope Christian College is
varied and far reaching. It is a genre that can be utilized
by every other department and opens doors to understanding
when other mediums may not. |
| SPRING PLAYS - Every year, NHCC presents a spring
play for student participation and community outreach.
Every other year, the format is children's theatre with
an emphasis on taking the play to community schools
for presentation. The alternating years are dedicated
to serious dramatic plays, presented on campus, that
allow the students to stretch their acting abilities
